This is our home - John and Janette Knapper. In the early 1990's we decided the stone on the property would make a beautiful house. In our leisure time we dug and collected some 35 tonne of rock before commencing building in 1996. The build was project managed by John who also assisted with construction of the steel frame, assisted the plumber and other tradespeople, as well as do all the fit out, the finishing touches and the verandas.
We have lived here permanently since 1997 but the planning started way back in 1985. We both had big jobs in Melbourne and commuted most weekends so were really looking forward to our permanent 'tree change'.
The house is complete but the garden is an ongoing project. We have a small olive grove, lots of fruit trees, over 40 almond trees, and have planted the garden with trees that give colour. Autumn is just as appealing as Spring. On the farm we run up to 100 angus breeders with half spring calvers and half autumn calvers. The property has had to be developed with dams and paddocks put in, sheds built, shelter belts planted, and it seems the fencing will go on forever. This, along with a fairly constant stream of visitors in all but the summer months, keeps us pretty busy. We enjoy our local community and contribute where we can. We admire many locals who put so much into this community. The home property is 175 acres. It is a mix of clearings and bush with 6 dams and a couple of water holes, a bore which mainly services t he garden in summer, and a seasonal creek - Little Sam's Creek. There are some very picturesque waterfalls about 3 minutes walk from the house.
